STEM LEGO Trip

St Marys STEM Club took part in the LEGO Robotics Challenge held at Edge Hill university on Tuesday 26th April. After a difficult start to the day with a cancelled minibus, the students competed a series of challenges using their LEGO EV3 Robot. The robot had to be built and programmed by the students, which they have been working on in STEM Club on Monday evenings in preparation for the event. In addition the students had to build a Drag racer, which came 2nd in the Speed Challenge. The students also had to take part in a team building exercise creating a super slow marble run out of paper and tape. This showed leadership, communication and organisation of the pupils whilst completing an engineering task. Finally the team had to present their idea for  ‘Engineers futureproofing the world’ to a panel of STEM Ambassadors. The pupils were very well behaved and respectful throughout the day and had positive comments from other STEM ambassadors praising the groups positive communication with one another. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the team at Engineering UK for supporting us today and Edgehill University for hosting the event, we’ve all had a fantastic visit.
