Music Department

The Music department works hard to maintain a high standard of teaching and learning, an enjoyment of the subject at all levels, and prides itself in nurturing new and existing musical talents of pupils.

Through participation in classroom work and extra-curricular activities we aim to help pupils achieve a sense of pride and satisfaction, attain academic recognition and develop vital personal qualities such as commitment, team work and responsibility.

The Music department has achieved 100% pass rate at GCSE and students achieving Merit and above for BTEC Level 3 Performing,which is a reflection of the hard work and commitment of both pupils and staff at St Mary’s.

Curriculum Overview

Learning Programmes

All students in Key Stage 3 will be issued with a new A4 exercise book each Learning Programme (Term). This clearly outlines week-by-week the curriculum content both in class and at home. There are 3 Learning Programmes in total LP1 (September to Christmas) LP2 (January to Easter) LP3 (Easter to July).

Drama, Music and PE are working with Learning Journals throughout Key Stage 3.

All students in Key Stage 4 will be issued with a new A4 exercise book each Learning Programme (Term) or Unit (Relating to the Qualification being studied).

There are no Learning Programmes for Key Stage 5 subjects. The Curriculum Overview for each course can be found in the Year 12 and Year 13 tabs.

All Learning Programmes will be displayed on the first page of all exercise books. Each Learning Programme can found in the separate tab for each Year Group.

Music is delivered to all pupils for one hour per week throughout KS3. Pupils can opt to study an additional lesson of music in Years 8 and 9. Music GCSE is offered to pupils in Year 10. Students in the Sixth Form are offered BTEC Music Performing.
